Certified by the American Board of Urology, Dr. Berger joined Associates in Urology in 1991.
A Senior attending Urologist, he holds dual appointments within the Departments of Surgery (Urology) and OB/GYN at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston NJ. With an MD from Hebrew University, Hadassah Medical School, Jerusalem in Israel, Dr. Berger completed his surgical and urology residencies at the Kings County-Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. Subsequently, Dr. Berger completed a Fellowship in neurology, urodynamics and female urology at Columbia University, College of Physicians & Surgeons and the Presbyterian hospital in New York and was an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School from 1986 to 1991.
Dr. Berger is a recognized authority in the field of urinary incontinence and his practice focuses on the medical and surgical management of female urology, Urodynamics, neurogenic bladder and other voiding disorders such as Interstitial Cystitis (IC). He frequently delivers presentations on these subjects at the American Urology Association (AUA), Society of Urodynamics and Female Urology (SUFU) and other urological meetings and in venues sponsored by pharmaceutical companies on research subjects, new medical products and educational issues. He was awarded grants from a number of pharmaceutical companies to investigate treatments for urologic disorders and he serve(d)s as a Principal Investigator (PI) on numerous phase II and III clinical trials of various medications and surgical products (see CV). In these capacities, he also authored publications and lectured on these subjects. In the past, he was a Preceptor for the treatment of Intrinsic Sphincteric Deficiency (ISD) with Collagen injections (Bard Co.).Currently he serves as a National Preceptor for the Tension free Vaginal Tape (TVT Gynecare, J&J ), a surgical procedure to correct Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) in women (see TVT section). He currently serves as an Principal investigator for two phase II studies on the efficacy and safety of Botulinum Type A (BOTOX) in treating patients with intractable symptoms of overactive bladder (OAB) due to neurological conditions and in those with no neurological history (see BOTOX section).
